Dear Stars Players, Families, Coaches and Managers.

The California Stars Hockey Club has merged operations with the California Wave Hockey Club for youth hockey travel team operations out of Center Ice Arena Ontario.

Over the past four months the Stars Board of Directors and I explored every option to remain in operation as an independent club out of Center Ice. We negotiated in good faith with the rink ownership who also owns the Wave club. Despite our best efforts it became clear that it would be in the best interests of all concerned that the Stars and Wave not to compete with one another for coaches and players at Center Ice. Accordingly we have reached agreement to work together to operate one club out of Center Ice, the California Wave.

The Wave has offered our Stars coaches positions within their organization. My hope is that all of them will be able to field teams out of Center Ice this coming season under the Wave program which will now operate out of two rinks (Artesia and Ontario). I have also offered my services to the Wave to assist with administrative duties and would like very much to remain involved with the program in Ontario. I will advise you if they decide to include me in their plans.

I want to thank each and every one of you for your support and involvement with the Stars over the years. It has been my honor to serve as your president for the past five seasons and as a vice president for four years prior to that term. Throughout my tenure I did my best to establish and maintain a family based and family accountable youth hockey program that allowed our players to develop their skills in a positive environment for all concerned. These operations will now be transferred to the Wave organization. My hope and expectation is that they will provide our family members a solid youth hockey program and facility for the coming season and beyond.

Please stay in contact with your coaches regarding details of the transition. As outgoing club president I ask that you support your coaches and the new Wave program at Center Ice Arena. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions and again, thank you for your support.

Regards,

Rob Freeman, President

California Stars Hockey Club

The California Stars recently competed in Pasadena Tournament

Their first tournament of the year was a success as they played in 5 total games. First opponent they played was against the Ontario Eagles Mite B team, which was close but in the end the Stars won. The second game was against the home rink Pasadena Maple Leafs. The game was also close with both teams trading goals back and forth but once again the Stars ended up winning. The next opponent was against the Jr. Kings. The game was close throughout and ended in a tie. The following day they played the Jr. Reign but the Stars were too strong and ended with a convincing win.

The Stars faced the home team Maple Leafs in the championship game. The young Stars team would take an early lead but the Maple Leafs wouldn’t give up without a fight. The two teams end up trading goals and saw both teams take the lead. The California Stars outmatched the Maple Leafs and won the game 6-4.

Congratulations to Natalie Allen, Luke Artukovich, Lauren Campos, Mario Chapman, Ezra Gale, Ryan Gombyski, Tyler Lee, Matthew Loney, Jarod Miller, Scott Slayback, Anthony Yu. The youngsters were setting their sights high as they competed in and won the teams, along with many players, first championship!!

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the California Stars Hockey Club I want to thank all our players, families, coaches and managers for a great 2010-2011 season. As president I appreciate your support and hard work. Five of our eight teams advanced to playoffs this year. We congratulate them all. Our Midget 18AAA team finished as runner up in the CAHA state championships and won the USA Hockey Pacific District Championships to advance to Nationals. We are especially proud of these young men for their dedication and our outstanding Tier I Major Coach Brent Agrusa for his leadership.

As we conclude this season, efforts are underway to transition to the 2011-2012 season with our Wednesday night spring clinic program that will begin on March 30. A program flyer and registration form will be posted on this site. We encourage our players to stay active in the off-season and prepare for tryouts in June for the 2011-2012 season. Lastly I want to acknowledge the new ownership at Center Ice Ontario. Danny Kwan and family are the new owners and we are very excited to announce the Stars will continue our partnership with Center Ice for the spring and upcoming season. Rink manager Jeremy Mingura has been very supportive of our efforts and we encourage our player families to see the many upgrades the Kwans are doing at Center Ice. We are proud to call Center Ice our home for another season and beyond.

I encourage you to stay with the Stars in the off season and upcoming regular season. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments at robertbfreeman@aol.com

Regards,
